Library Instruction and Orientation
The Gerald R. Sherratt Library offers a variety of library-related assistance and instruction. Library instruction has a high priority among the library's public service programs.
Library Instruction
During the first weeks of each semester, we receive a great number of requests for library instruction sessions. To schedule an appointment, please submit this Library Instruction Request Form or contact us at LibInstruction@hnzzta.com or at (435) 856-8172. Each request will be honored on a first-come, first-serve basis. Time is needed to prepare for a course-specific orientation, so when you request library instruction, please help us to maximize the effectiveness of your session by doing the following things:
- Submit your request at least 1-2 weeks in advance
- Provide us with a copy of your course syllabus and/or the specific assignment, and a list of potential topics for your students
- Ask your students to come to the session prepared with topics they want to research
- Plan to attend the requested session(s) yourself to help assist your students in learning to use library resources
Student Orientation & INFO 1010
Every semester the Library holds general orientations which introduce first-year students to using the SUU library catalog and searching in multidisciplinary databases.
The Library also offers INFO 1010: Information Literacy & Library Research, a one-credit, self-paced online web course that introduces students to the services and resources of the SUU Library. INFO 1010 also gets students on their way to doing library research and thinking critically about information sources. Faculty members are welcome to register for this class.
